Friday Five 2/5/2010 Edition

It’s Friday today, which is good because I woke up yesterday thinking it was Friday. That was disappointing. I had a hard time deciding what to post today, a lot of stuff in the reader, but here goes, the standard wacky and disconnected collection of posts from the last week or so.

So that’s that, have a wonderful weekend, avoid the roads whenever possible, and if you see me out and about yell my name loudly so I can buy you a beer.

Friday Five 1/29/2010 Edition

After a brief hiatus due to me being extremely lazy after getting the School Night Badge on Foursquare, Friday Five is back. This week contains a bit of humor, some music, one excellent writeup about social media “experts” and a comic about arguing. Enjoy

  • Have you seen Dessa’s new video? If you haven’t you should check it out, immediately.
  • Minus Manhattan catches a glimpse a bundled up teddy bear. Proof that even stuffed animals aren’t made to live in this crazy weather.
  • MN Headhunter calls out the many social media experts. He has ruined my dream of putting “social media expert” in my twitter bio and making six figures.
  • Rachel is losing control of her pillow.
  • Instructions on how to make your point in an argument.

Finally, I’m posting this even though it’s heartbreaking, but read about Monkey, and then go hug your pet.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, stay warm and enjoy the end of the first month of 2010.

Friday Five 1/15/10 Edition

Before I get to the links, I want to ask you to take a minute to donate to the cause in Haiti. There are a ton of charities out there. By far the easiest way to donate is to text “Haiti” to 90999 on your cell phone. This will donate $10 which will be added to your cell phone bill. You can also donate at Give.mn today and they will match your donation. Thanks!

Now on to more entertaining stuff. Today I give you the usual collection of links. Don’t worry, I personally guarantee they are all worth at least a little bit of your precious time.

  • A uplifting letter written by Iggy Pop shows up on “Letters of Note” (language)
  • A fantastic photo of some daring guys on a Chicago roof top
  • The Heavy Table promotes my anti-cold philosophy; Natural vitamin C.
  • Minnpics has a fantastic photo of a thresher. It remind me of home since I had one of these in my backyard growing up.
  • Stuff about Minneapolis shares a great story of true Minnesota nice.

Enjoy your weekend, get outside and soak up this weather before we return to normal. I will see you all back here next week.

Friday Five 1/7/10 Edition

I took a little blogging hiatus and it was refreshing, but now Friday Five is back with more fun, more randomness, and even more awesome things written by people not named Conner.  Today is a roundup of links that came across my reader that caught my eye. Enjoy.

  • If you have a birthday coming up, The Heavy Table has a great roundup of great restaurants that give free desserts on your special day
  • Bigboxcar points us to a photo of a giant rubber ducky
  • Febgiving has been declared and I’m coming out as a supporter, get your stomachs ready
  • MN Headhunter posts a really great writeup of being offered his dream job
  • Unclutter showcases the best unitasker items of the year

Have a great weekend all, I’m off to the frozen tundra of Grand Forks to take in a hockey game and catchup with old friends. It should be fun, and I hopefully I don’t have a repeat of last years trip.

Friday Five 12/18/2009 Edition

Today’s five includes a few touches of vulgarity, excellent design, and beer.  What more can you ask for?

  • I really like this poster that you need to  make. Christmas present anyone?
  • Ed calls out Zygi Wilf for the welfare recipient that he wants to be. (note: I don’t want the Vikes to leave, but when we can’t pay for roads we can’t pay for a stadium)
  • Nicole concocts a plan involving Sarah Silverman, brisket, and nudity. I’m all for it.
  • Love this serving glass.
  • If you ever want to know what beer you should drink, this chart has you covered.

Have a great weekend everyone. It’s supposed to be in the 20s, so get out there and enjoy it. I for one am going to be playing in the snow all weekend. Of course by playing in the snow I mean running from the bus to the bar as quickly as possible because even 25 is too freaking cold.

Friday Five 12/11/2009 Edition

Can you believe we are only one full work week away from Christmas?  Shocking, I know. Here are five things that caught my eye this week. Enjoy.

  • Some interesting tips for non-writers from a Hugo award winner.
  • From what could be my favorite new blog this year, Letters of Note, the message sent immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor commenced.
  • A sad but uplifting story of a shop dog from south Minneapolis.
  • The Heavy Table posted a delicious looking Gnocchi recipe that I intend to try soon.
  • I love this design that includes a great Oscar Wilde quote.

I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend, we are supposed to get to 25 above on Saturday, which is going to feel amazing.

Winter has finally arrived, and I’m going back almost to the beginnings of Friday Five. The top result of five Flickr searches.

We also have a bonus photo which I saw in one of the searches that intrigued me.

Have a great weekend everyone. Don’t let the cold weather get you down, there is always something going on that will keep your spirits up.

Thanksgiving Five 11/26/09 Edition

I’m not posting tomorrow, so here are five things I’m thankful for.

  • Old friends, I don’t see many of them enough, but when we do get together it’s like we have been apart for a couple days, not the months that is sometimes is.
  • New friends, many of whom I met this year, I can’t say enough about how much fun I have with them..
  • Minneapolis, this city has stolen my heart.  I love the skyline, the parks, the people, the music, the….
  • Family, another group of people I don’t see enough, but I love you all and wish I didn’t live so damn far away.
  • This never ending fall.  Actually, it looks like it has ended, but wow, this was a November to be thankful for.

Finally, I’m thankful for everyone who reads my scattered thoughts.  I don’t know why you do such a thing, but it makes every day a little brighter knowing you do.

Have a fabulous Thanksgiving everyone.

Friday Five 11/20/09 Edition

Today’s five includes five local items you should read.  For those of you who don’t know, local means Minnesota.  They are all great pieces that came through my reader this week.

  • Art tells the Internet to stop censoring itself.  I look back on my use of $%#ing swear words with shame.
  • Sorni posts a map of the US explaining where certain people come from.
  • Amber posts what could be the funniest date recap I’ve read in recent history.
  • Kaeti contemplates selling her car, and makes a pretty convincing argument that she could survive.
  • Doniree posts a excellent post on risk taking and then announces that she is taking a big risk. (go wish her luck)

Happy Friday everyone, remember the workday isn’t far from being over.  Enjoy your weekend and I’ll see you back here next week.  (or later today, you never know)

Friday Five 11/6/2009 Edition

Happy Friday Readers!  Can you tell I’m excited, after yesterday’s craziness I’m ready for the weekend.  Tonight may or may not include sitting at home and doing very little.  Saturday looks to be full of adventures and I’m excited for them to begin.

Today’s five is a collection of five words I intend to start using more often.  Enjoy

  • Cripes
  • Criminy
  • Spiffy
  • Swell
  • Knucklehead (via graciep)

Have a swell weekend everyone!
