Art Sleds

Saturday I went to the annual art sled rally at Powderhorn park. I arrived about an hour late so I missed some of the excitement, apparently there was a Santa sled. Still I had a good time, got some sunshine, only lost two toes, and managed to avoid falling while walking down the sledding hill. Here is a slide show of the photos I took. Here is a link to the set.

Fall Colors

The last couple of weeks have been pretty nice, but before that, we didn’t have much of a fall.  Thankfully we had a couple nice days before all the leaves disappeared.  It was a few Sundays ago that Nicky and I went out to the Peace Gardens near Lake Harriet for some photos.

Sadly, I didn’t get a ton of good leaf shots. You can see the rest of the set here.  Nicky has a few up as well and her shots can be found here.  I especially love this one.

A Tourist in My Own City

One thing I’ve come to love is playing tourist in my own city.  Now, by playing tourist, I don’t mean driving erratically, stopping suddenly in the sky way, or going to the Mall of America.  Instead I just wander around an area of town with no destination in mind looking for new things to do.

This Sunday I did just that.  I started my day out at the Lyndale Farmers Market. Then I hit up Target downtown for a parking spot and a new memory card.  I loaded that up and off I went.  Here a few of the photos I took.

It helped that the weather was absolutely ridiculous for November.  So, overall I had a great Sunday.

P.S. I bet you didn’t expect my blog to turn into a photo blog for the week.

Dog Park

Saturday was crazy busy.  Nicky, Ninja, and I spent a good chunk of time at the dog park next to MCTC, and took a ton of photos.  So here are a few to help you start your Monday off on the right foot.

You can find other photos from the day on Flickr.

Duluth and the Woods

My trip to Duluth was intended to be a photo journey.  I ended up spending the day in a bar thinking there was nothing worth photographing.  Finally, after being told I had to go take photos of the waves I ended up doing just that.  I had an incredible time.  It was probably the most challenging photography experience I’ve had.  The winds were gusting at over 40 mph and the rain was coming at you vertically.  I had an umbrella and a jacket to protect my gear, but it was almost impossible to keep the lens dry.  Happily, I managed to get a few shots I’m happy with and the experience only added fuel to my passion for photography.

Here are a few of the shots I took.  As usual, the rest can be found on Flickr.

The last time I was in Duluth I was there for a job interview and didn’t have much time to enjoy myself.  I loved seeing the ships on the lake.  It stills amazes me just how big Superior is.

The waves were incredible, I talked to a few locals while walking along the shore and they all said they don’t usually see waves this large this early in the season.

One of the residents of Duluth directed me to this beach where people were surfing.  I’d heard this was possible but had never seen it until I took these photos.

Unfortunately, the rain and clouds didn’t lead to many great fall color shots.  On the plus side I did get to hang out with Piper again.  She is getting big but she is still dang cute.

My Saturday (in photos)

I woke up Saturday with no real plans.  Here is the result.

Coffee followed by a trip to the Lyndale Farmers Market,  a long bike ride along the Mid-Town Greenway and the bottom half of the Grand Rounds.  Lunch at Sea Salt, a quick stop a Lake Harriet followed by going home to spend the day reading and enjoying a few fall beverages.  In other words, almost perfect.

Edit:  Yes, that is a craw fish Po’Boy which goes against my attempt at a meatless month.  I just couldn’t resist, and this was only my second trip to Sea Salt this year.  Still, no red meat this month and I’ll be meatless for the next three days.

State Fair Photos

I’ll be posting a recap later today or tomorrow morning, but for now enjoy these photos I took at the fair.

Happy Friday everyone!  Enjoy your long weekend (if you get one).

Sunrise 2/6/2009

The sunrise was amazing this morning, though I wasn’t aware of it until I saw an update on Twitter.  So I threw on a jacket and ran outside with my camera.

I was not prepared to jump in my car and find a better location, but at least I was able to capture the colors.

Warm Weather = Photos

It was over 40 in Minneapolis today.  This was so great that I just had to soak up as much sun and warm air as possible.  I took a ton of photo, including some of the Art Shanty’s  and the the Mill City/Stone Arch Bridge Area.  But my favorite came from Como Zoo.

The other two are just icing on the cake.  Sorry about the inconsistent processing job, I need to get my Raw file workflow down, just can’t find a Linux program that works like I think.

Edit:  I found a program that I liked and fixed the photos.  No more blue and gray snow.
