Inspired by a few things, but primarily Cliff’s Cliff Notes. I don’t intend on these being on any specific cadence, but just a way to dump some thoughts that I have been toying around with but don’t feel like fleshing out.

  • I broke my shoulder the Friday before Christmas in a fall on the ice. I finally went to the Dr. three weeks in, had an MRI. We found that I broke my greater tuberosity. My left arm is in a sling and I start PT soon. Thankfully it was not a torn rotator cuff, which was the initial fear of my Dr.
  • I had to stop skating lessons due to this, too much risk of a major injury if I was to fall. I am sad, but learned there are summer classes. I setup a changedetection.io watcher on the lesson search page so I can be notified when they open. Works as both a way to ensure I get in and as a reminder to actually sign up. This little tool is fun to find uses for.
  • Sports have been fun the last few weeks. College Football playoffs have been interesting, if kind of boring on the field. NFL playoffs were insane this last weekend, so much fun. Wolves are rolling and Wild, though struggling are fun with their big acquisition of Quinn Hughes. Not a bad set of circumstances when I am trying to stay mostly still.
  • In other sports news. Saint Paul was the host of the World Juniors hockey tournament. We were able to snag tickets to one of the USA games. It was a lot of fun. The game and the events around it were great. I really hope they can host again in the next decade. image
  • My injury has definitely made typing more challenging. I am still looking for other options, but I discovered Handy, which is pretty nice. Lets me hit a button on my keyboard and speak to put text into any text field. It is not perfect, but for quick notes and thoughts it does enough.
  • I snagged a refurbished OLED Steam Deck after my changedetection.io instance alerted me to availability. Tough to play much with a single arm, but I am excited about the possibilities. Poked at Blue Prince for an hour or so today, which is a great title when you can be relaxed with your reaction times. I am not sure I quite get the game yet, but I have yet to feel stuck.
  • This will inspire a longer post, but I am also working on an esphome backed fireplace fan controller. Basically I want to replace the fan we bought when we moved in with a quieter, controllable version. Today I got the first fan wired up correctly so I can control the speed through Home Assistant. Running into some connectivity issues where the esp32 loses communication with Home Assistant, which is a weird bug I will figure out.
